The Ideal Filipina In The Heart And Mind of A Filipina (Not A Mere Dating Or Sex Object)
August 31, 2007Update: Today (Nov. 28) is Judgment Day! (Congratulations to whoever will win!)
I have been involved with the Talitha Foundation for about 4 years now. Since that time I have loved the Foundation for the mission and vision it upholds. Also, from the time I got involved, I helped shape it for what it is now.
The founder, Ofelia Pantino, is a Filipina who also became my friend.
One of the things I did for the Foundation is to create the Women Empowerment Program which I believe makes a Filipina whole, equipped and empowered, able to stand on her own. Not that a Filipina does not need a man but in times he is not around, the Filipina can.
Having 2000+ family-beneficiaries, all grasping for financial breath, the bankrupt Foundation can do so little. But we are not giving up, though. We see miracles happen at times we are at the brink of giving up. All we have at the moment is the heart to help to continue the upliftment we want to share.
So, back to the ideal Filipina, in my mind, a Filipina should be equipped and empowered with skills. During the process of creating the Talitha Women Empowerment Program, I see myself, and I felt our beneficiaries will be a lot better when equipped and empowered with the following skills:
Computer Literacy to be updated with the current IT skills.
Basic Accounting & Bookkeeping to know how to manage and track finances.
Dressmaking & Tailoring to be able to sew not only for her family but can be a livelihood as well.
Hair & Beauty Culture to be well groomed and give service to others as a livelihood opportunity.
Food Processing, Preservation, Cooking & Baking
First Aid & Basic Survival Skills to know what to do in case of emergency.
Basic Carpentry & Woodworking to be able to cope and do what needs to be done when there is no man to do the job.
Basic Electricity to be able to handle electricity well, fix simple wiring and switches, even when the man is away.
Social Development to be able to handle herself in public.
Commercial & Social Art to be able to release stress and at the same time make a livelihood out of it.
Floral & Vegetable Gardening to be able to grow everyday needs which is also a livelihood opportunity.
Floral Arrangement to be able to make beautiful arrangements needed for different occasions like weddings, birthdays, parties, graduations, funeral, or simply romantic arrangements for sale.
Candle Art brings out inner peace and money to one's pocket especially in November.
Paper Recycling & Card Making saves trees and gives warmth to the card recipient and money to the maker's pocket.
The Art of Selling equips with selling skills so she can sell anything that she creates or makes.
Music has been existing since life began but it can still be developed not only for self satisfaction but for income as well.
Self Defense will equip and protect her from malicious people.
Driving & Basic Auto Mechanic Troubleshooting Skills will teach her to go places when needed and fix the vehicle and know what to do when vehicle trouble dawns upon her.
Sanitation, Health & Fitness will keep her clean, fit and healthy so she can pass it on to her family as well.
To explain why, here is the full Talitha Women Empowerment Program ideal for any Filipina to make the Filipina whole.
A few days ago, I've posted the recent development of the Talitha Collection as part of the recycling project under the Livelihood program, separate from the Women Empowerment but go hand-in-hand. The Filipina Talithans who Need Help To Catch Good Fish will be ever thanful to those who would help the Filipina Talithans financially to give financial breathing space.
